As part of the Ohau Range in the Main Divide, Ohau Snow Fields is endowed with reliable snowfall and fine weather. The mountain is serviced by a double chairlift, a platter and a snow mat. The main trails are groomed regularly and there is a fully automated 23 gun Techno Alpin snowmaking system which covers the main trail down the mountain.
‘The Boulevard' offers learners and intermediates an easy and fun skiing or snowboarding experience from the top of the chairlift down to the base facilities. A very gentle slope with snow mat is ideal for children and beginners while the platter lift is more exciting for the developing beginner.
The vertical rise on the chairlift is 345 m and the length 920 m. It gives access to a variety of terrain from wide open intermediate slopes to extreme chutes. Ohau Snow Fields is an off piste heaven with plenty of challenging terrain and good hiking to access the wide open powder bowls from the ridge line.
Riding at Ohau is not just a day's riding. Some would say unless you've spent a day at Ohau AND a night in the Lake Ohau Lodge, you've yet to experience the best of what skiing is in New Zealand.
"Ohau is where people are important. Having skied down to the chair lift from the car park their liftie will advise you where the best runs are and they will be checking on your next run to see if they was right."If you have ever had a lesson at Ohau you will know that even though your lesson is over your instructor will still be reminding you across the slopes to keep your body facing down the mountain or to keep your hands forward as you pass by - the lesson didn't stop after you had paid for your hours instruction.
