JAN 20
An arctic high keeps a steady hand on the weather today after a clear, starry night. Calm to light NW breeze at ridge elevation, with still air on the lower mountain. Our coldest start, in an overall mild winter so far. -20C at summit and -22C in the village at 6AM with temperatures starting to rise from 9AM. We have the potential for an inversion today, with summit looking at a high of -12C, while the lower mountain remains cooler in the minus teens. As per yesterday, seek the sun to feel warmer - there should be a good dose of it, with some scattered cloud.

Snow comment:
JAN 20
The dose of recent snow softened off piste conditions over the weekend, with good turns in the upper section of Taynton Bowl runs. Inviting small bumps to work to warmth on Heaven Can Wait yesterday, will be a good tactic again today. Cool weather and recent snow should give us some superior grippy groom this morning. The middle of Sun Bowl through Solarium to Sunseeker and Lower Bowl is laid out today. Slow laps and short turns are preferable to avoid air chill and get the blood pumping, while searching out the solar and inverted temperature profile on the upper mountain will also serve you well. A hot drink from the various establishments on snow and at the base(s) will help do the job from the inside out. Keep clothed and carry on!
Status Quo in Taynton Bowl mid January:
Wider planks will be helpful if you seek the untracked; if you are precious about your gear, be advised: you are likely to hit hazards, although more cellulose based than mineral! Thicker, settled snow is difficult to turn in, and flatter spots should be avoided as you lose momentum quickly. Day on day, more tracks concentrating through the lower sections of drainages will give more reliable, soft pack conditions that will improve ease of travel. Have an eye for open creek sections through the ski outs. A little post holiday period snow has added some softness to the journey.
Nordic and multi-use trails out of Greywolf have a mix of daily and semi-regular groom, with selected trackset on the XC trails. Please check our Nordic webpage, or direct at the Nordic Centre for more detailed information.
